Alopecia is the medical term used for HAIR LOSS.Alopecia areata is the patchy hair loss which is an autoimmune problem.
Causes of Generalised alopacia
In males testosterone action results in baldness

Hormonal changes eg thyroid disease, childbirth, or use of the birth control pill
A serious illness (like a tumor of the ovary or adrenal glands) or fever
Medication such as cancer chemotherapy
Collagen vascular disorder like SLE
Excessive shampooing and blow-drying
