why sexual dysfunction is increasingly common in young

I have encountered several cases of erectile dysfunction in the last 7 years of clinical practice. The possible cause of early onset erectile dysfunction is diet.Almost 90% of erectile dysfunction is thought to have a vascular etiology. That means the vessels supplying penis which has a major role in maintaining erection get blocked resulting in inadequate blood supply.Erection is maintained through pooling of blood in the region of corpora cavarnosa of penis. When the blood supply is limited ,naturally the process of erection is impaired. So any condition that compromise the inner diameter of pudental vessels(that supply penis) will result in impotence.Hypercholestrolemia andDiabetes melitus are well known to produce vascular narrowing. So the dietary habits which predisposes to these conditions has a major role in erectile dysfunction.
What we can do about this,
Control high cholestrol
Treat Diabetes are primary preventive measures
In established cases drugs which increase bolood flow to pudental arteries are found very helpful.
Sildenafil citrate popularly known as VIAGRArevolutionised treatment of sexual dysfunction.this drug acts in 1/2-1 hr time after oral intake and the effect will last for 8 hours.
The story of invention of viagra is interesting. This drug was initially tested for treating heart disease in angina patient in a clinical trial.the investigators gave medicines to patients butthis drug was found not useful in its treatment. When patients participated in the study was asked to return the tablets they were reluctant to return it.On further questioning they revealed the fact that this drug was remarkably improving sexual function.
Viagra is of course a drug having side effects and ideally taken with the prescription by a medical practitioner.Patients with heart disease on nitrate should be especially cautious in taking this drug.

Newer derivatives of this drugs with prolonged duration of action are also in the market.,
